Dating Scam Part III – Michelle

Lately, I have been receiving random text messages from “women” who are looking for “romance.”  For this dating scam, I took a little different tack than usual. Instead of being charming, I decided to play the role of suspicious and a jerk. As you can see, it did not have any effect on the scammer.

Here is a tip for those who receive photos. If you right-click on the photo, you will get a drop-down menu with the option to have Google search for that photo on the internet. If it is used on a website, the search will show you where with links to click. Most of these scammers use photos of famous models or porn stars and they show up in the search. Unfortunately, this person sent a photo that I could not find on the internet.

My next move is to flatter this person in the hope they will send another photo that can be searched.

I quickly searched the internet to find a photo that would be disturbing but believable. This pour man was the victim of a shooting accident and had a new face built. He is in the right age group to fit my purposes.

Notice that this person wrote “What wrong” instead of “What’s wrong.” This is a classic mistake of someone who doesn’t speak English as a first language. The other clue is the fact that they don’t know the difference between past and present tense words as you will see in the next exchange with the word “tell” instead of ‘told.”

Once again, I push the fact that we are not compatible, but it does not deter this scammer. So, I decided to see if I can get another photo by suggesting that I get turned on by sexy women. If this person whose photo they are using is a model or porn star, there will be many sexy photos for them to copy and send.

Not getting anywhere with the subtle approach so why not just ask straight out.

I then tried to cause her to think that maybe I am after her money, just to see her reaction.

The I need somebody to support me ploy didn’t work so it is time, to tell the truth and see if it scares them off.

The English is getting sloppy at this point. My apology in advance for the Ozark slur.

No scammer wants to be highlighted in a book, especially a book about scammers.

Okay, I have called them out and now they are going to try to redeem themselves by proving to me they are real.  Unfortunately, the next photo still does not show up on a Google search but then they send a photo of a driver’s license.

Look closely at the license before reading any further. See if you see what I see.

Okay, here is where I spell things out for this scammer.

I sent an Ohio driver’s license for comparison. Perhaps you can see the discrepancies between the two.

After this, the person decided not to reply anymore.

I don’t know the end game for this person, perhaps it was simply to get me to send a copy of my driver’s license but I sidestepped that ploy by sending a photo ID that doesn’t reveal any information other than my name. I give them an E for the effort they made to produce a fake ID and send photos that could not be found on a Google search. No doubt, with the information they were trying to gather, they had an agenda to get some money in some nefarious way.
